MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Montgomery Public Schools (MPS) announced today the results of the 2024–2025 Alabama State Report Card, highlighting measurable improvements across several key performance indicators and continued progress toward academic excellence.
For the 2024–2025 school year, MPS improved its overall score from a 74 (C) to a 75 (C). The district saw gains in academic achievement, academic growth, graduation rate, college and career readiness, and a reduction in chronic absenteeism—all core priorities outlined in the district’s 100-Day Entry Plan and the recently released Transition Team Report.
This year’s results also show that 10 MPS schools improved their overall letter grade, with several making notable progress across multiple indicators.
While celebrating these gains, district leaders also acknowledged the schools that experienced declines and the underlying factors contributing to those changes, including attendance challenges, increased numbers of special populations, and dips in grade-level performance.
Superintendent Dr. Zickeyous M. Byrd praised the work of educators, principals, support staff, students, and families while emphasizing the district’s commitment to continued improvement.
“This year’s report card shows that Montgomery Public Schools is moving in the right direction,” said Dr. Byrd. “We are seeing growth across the district—in achievement, in graduation outcomes, and in student readiness. At the same time, we are approaching areas of decline with honesty, urgency, and action. Every child deserves excellence, and these results reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that every school is a place where students are present, supported, and inspired to succeed.”
Dr. Byrd noted that the findings align closely with the recommendations outlined in his 100- Day Entry Plan and the November 2025 Transition Team Report, which examined student achievement, human resources, communications, and chronic absenteeism. The report card results will directly inform development of the district’s multi-year Strategic Plan, to be completed in 2026.
“MPS will use this data to strengthen Tier 1 instruction, accelerate math and literacy growth, improve school climate, and deepen our engagement with families. This report is a milestone—not a finish line. With continued hard work and community partnership, even greater progress is ahead for Montgomery’s students,” Byrd added.
