Montgomery Public Schools Gears Up for the 2025–2026 School Year

Montgomery Public Schools (MPS) is excited to welcome students back for the 2025–2026 academic year with a renewed focus on safety, accountability, and strong communication between schools and families. As the new school year approaches, MPS is implementing several important updates that all parents and guardians need to know to ensure a smooth and successful start for their children.

Mandatory Student Registration

All students must be registered for the 2025–2026 school year through PowerSchool. To complete registration, parents and guardians will need a unique SNAP code for each student. These codes can be obtained by contacting your child’s school directly or the MPS Help Center located at LAMP High School located at 3440 McGhee Road from 8am-2pm.. Registration is required to receive a class schedule, access MPS devices, and ensure transportation services are in place.

Student ID Badges

In the interest of school safety and efficient operations, all MPS students will be required to wear ID badges throughout the school day. Schools will provide more specific guidance regarding badge distribution and expectations.

Clear Book Bag Policy

As part of enhanced safety measures, students must bring clear book bags to school. Mesh book bags will not be permitted. This policy applies to all students and is designed to create a safer environment for everyone on campus.

New Cell Phone Policy Under the FOCUS Act

In alignment with the newly adopted FOCUS Act, MPS students will not be allowed to use personal cell phones during school hours while on campus. To support this policy, all middle and high school students will be provided with Yondr pouches to securely store their phones during the school day. Elementary schools will provide guidance on their protocols for cellular devices.

This initiative is designed to help students remain focused on learning, minimize distractions, and protect instructional time.

Stay Connected

MPS strongly encourages parents and guardians to stay connected with their child's school throughout the year. Regular communication helps support student achievement and ensures families are informed about academic expectations, school events, and resources available to support student success.

As always, MPS is committed to providing a safe and enriching learning environment for every student. For additional questions or support, families are encouraged to reach out to their school’s main office or visit the MPS website.

Let’s work together to make this school year the best one yet!
