MPS is thrilled to announce that our students will have the chance to share the stage with Grammy Award-winning percussionist Sheila E. at the “Keep the Beat” concert on May 10 at the Riverfront Amphitheater from 3 pm to 6 pm hosted by Pastor Lee Walker of New Home Missionary Baptist Church and Mr. Terrance Baldwin, Founder of MEOW Academy!
Sheila E., a world-renowned performer, is joining us to help spotlight the importance of daily school attendance and strong family engagement. Our Office of Family and Parental Engagement will host an important information session focused on dealing with grief. The event will include discussions on the new stages of grief, practical strategies for coping with loss, and information on local resources and support systems. Local mental health vendors will be on site to provide additional guidance and assistance. This event is open to everyone. MPS ACCESS/Virtual Program will begin accepting applications for the 2025-2026 school year through May 30th. The program is open to all students in grades 9-12 who are on track to graduate with their cohort and have passed all coursework. The MPS ACCESS/Virtual Program utilizes a flexible learning model where students can take all the coursework that is required in a traditional classroom setting, online. Four LAMPers have received Aspirations in Computing (AiC) Awards from the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT).
From the NCWIT: "Each year, U.S. high school students in grades 9 through 12 receive recognition for their unique talents, aptitude, and aspirations in technology and computing. This year, 40 national winners and 360 honorable mentions were selected from over 3,700 exceptionally talented young applicants."
