LAMP brought home some big awards this week after a historic performance at the ASDA State Tournament at Northridge High School in Tuscaloosa. After a long season that technically kicked off with summer camps back in July, the team’s hard work culminated in the first Team State Championship for LAMP Speech & Debate in school history. This landmark 1st Place Speech Sweepstakes victory was accompanied by a 3rd Place finish in Debate Sweepstakes, six individual State Champions, and seven National Qualifiers.
The team’s success set a new standard for the entire state, as 22 of LAMP’s 24 speech entries advanced to elimination rounds—a dominant performance that has never been achieved before in Alabama history. This accomplishment is a direct reflection of the writing, research, and critical thinking skills these students developed in their classrooms. Many of the winning topics were inspired by lessons and discussions held right here on campus, proving that this state title is a win for the entire school community.
