Dear Parents and Guardians,

Thank you so much for your email. My name is Dr. Tandrea Elmore, and I am excited to introduce myself as the new School Counselor at Booker T. Washington High School. I’m truly honored to join the BTW family and to support our incredible scholars throughout the year.

If you're reaching out regarding your student's schedule, please know that our guidance department is actively working to ensure that every student has a schedule—though it may be temporary—on the first day of school. Our priority is to make sure that each student has a classroom to report to during every class period, not only for accountability purposes but also to ensure they feel welcomed and confident as the year begins.

As we finalize student placements, we anticipate a number of schedule changes over the next couple of weeks. We kindly ask for your patience and understanding during this time of transition.

Thank you for your continued support. I look forward to partnering with you to help our scholars have a successful and rewarding school year.

Warm regards,
Dr. Tandrea Elmore, LPC, NCC

Dear BTW Families, It is with great pride and excitement that I write this letter of introduction as the newly appointed Principal of Booker T. Washington Magnet High School in Montgomery, Alabama. I am fortunate enough to have been a part of the Montgomery Public Schools System over the past 24 years, serving as a classroom teacher, literacy specialist, assistant principal, elementary school principal, middle magnet school principal, and more recently, as the interim principal of Booker T. Washington Magnet for the Performing Arts during the second half of the 2024-2025 school year. I am eager to begin a new scholastic year working with the entire BTW community, as each of you have demonstrated the necessary resolve to continue in the quest of “Excellence in All Things”. During my tenure as an educator, I have emphasized a commitment to serving our community as a progressive leader of education. The organizational climate is essentially the barometric gauge of the atmosphere at Booker T. Washington Magnet High School. As the official instructional leader, my goal is to ensure the scholar-artists of BTW continue to achieve their highest potential. I pledge to be accountable and exercise a transformative leadership approach that supports the correlation between strategic planning, effective communication, innovation, resulting in “Excellence in All Things”. As evidenced by national recognitions for the many astonishing performances, the entire faculty and staff of BTW has worked tirelessly to create an environment that undoubtedly promotes intellectual vitality where students embrace the power of believing, learning, and ultimately, achieving. We have plans to take Booker T. Washington Magnet High School to the next level. We are excited to announce that we will offer a beginners’ guitar course this year as our initial step in reestablishing the guitar magnet. We are also pleased that we have secured highly qualified teachers to fill our academic, elective, and fine arts units. Lastly, we have expanded our athletic program by adding volleyball, softball, golf, and swimming. Such an atmosphere will cultivate a plethora of opportunities for every scholar to develop pertinent skills, discover and perfect their talents, and in due course, identify post-secondary pursuits, ready to share with society “Excellence in All Things”. The greatest influence on a scholar’s academic success, unarguably, is the collaborative relationship between school and home. It is this very partnership that will foster and support the most rewarding educational experiences for every scholar at BTW. Maintaining open lines of communication remains a top priority, and the use of social media and learning management systems will assist in our endeavors of streamlining communication from school to families our “Excellence in All Things.” I am thankful to be able to serve such a remarkable community of stakeholders. Should you have any questions or concerns, without hesitation, email me at courtney.giles@mps.k12.al.us or by calling the school’s main office. I am anxious to meet each one of you, as you are “Excellent in All Things”. Sincerely, Courtney Ruffin, EdD Principal
