Through LETRS Administrative Training, our team is gaining valuable knowledge and strategies to better support teachers, strengthen reading instruction, and improve literacy outcomes for ALL students.

🐆 Saddled Up for Success! Jaguars RISE! 💛🖤
Our **4th grade scholars** visited the **Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts** with the goal of learning more about **Alabama’s rich history, culture, people, and land**.
Students viewed the powerful artwork **“Stars Falling in Alabama”** and created artwork of their own inspired by the piece. 🎨✨
Our scholars also made meaningful **cross-curricular connections with mathematics**! 🔢📐 While exploring the artwork, students identified **shapes, angles, rows, columns, and arrays**, demonstrating that mathematical thinking can be found all around us—even in works of art!
Throughout their visit, students explored various pieces of art that provided insight into Alabama’s history and heritage. They learned about **Alabama’s landforms and Native American tribes**, connecting social studies, geography, art, and mathematics in an engaging learning experience. 🌎🪶
The day continued with an entertaining **puppet show featuring an Alabama folktale**, bringing storytelling and history to life! 🎭
What an amazing day of **exploring, creating, discovering, and making connections across content areas!** Our scholars are learning that the classroom extends far beyond the walls of our school!
Dear MPS Families and Staff,
Following a thorough evaluation of campus staffing coverage, all Montgomery Public Schools and administrative offices will be CLOSED tomorrow, Friday, October 9.
This operational decision was made to prioritize students' safety and supervision throughout the district. We are facing a high volume of employee leave requests, anticipated regional effects from Hurricane Isaias, a declared State of Emergency in Montgomery County, and the rescheduling of Alabama State University's annual Homecoming. These factors prevent us from maintaining adequate operational coverage across the district.
All campus buildings and administrative facilities will remain closed, and there will be no in-person or remote instruction tomorrow. All MPS campuses will reopen for normal operations on Tuesday, October 13, following the scheduled federal holiday.
Guidance regarding Friday evening athletics will be communicated directly by school leadership.
We deeply appreciate your patience, flexibility, and understanding as we work to ensure a safe environment for our scholars and staff.

Today, Johnson Elementary Schol was a vibrant spectrum of neon colors 🌈 as we proudly celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month by HIGHLIGHTING the rich culture of the Latino community! 💖💛💙💚
Students and staff alike donned their brightest neons to honor the incredible contributions, diverse traditions, and vibrant spirit that define Hispanic and Latino cultures. 🎉 It was wonderful to see our hallways glowing with so much enthusiasm and respect for the profound impact this community has made on our world. 🌎

Ms. Trammer’s 2nd grade scholars are proving that **math can be both meaningful and SWEET!** 🖤💛
Students used **Twizzlers and Skittles as concrete representations** to model and solve **two-digit addition problems**. Through this hands-on experience, students were able to:
🔢 Identify the **addends**
➕ Combine quantities to represent addition
🧮 Calculate the **sum**
👀 Make sense of addition using **concrete models**
🗣️ Explain their mathematical thinking
This engaging activity helped students move from **concrete representations to mathematical reasoning**, making addition more meaningful and memorable!
**When learning is hands-on, math becomes something students can see, touch, explain—and even enjoy!** 🍭📚
We are currently seeing a significant increase in employee leave requests across teachers, support staff, bus drivers, and other personnel. Our substitute staffing vendor is experiencing a high volume of requests and limited coverage. Adequate staffing is critical to maintaining a safe, secure, and productive learning environment for our scholars. District leadership is actively evaluating staffing coverage across all campuses.
We will continue assessing our operational needs and will provide families and staff with an official update no later than 12:00 p.m. tomorrow, October 8, regarding any adjustments to school schedules or operations.

Important Information:
- 🚗 Registration can be completed while remaining in your vehicle.
- ⏰ The event will last until all available supplies have been distributed.
- 🛒 Limit: 2 family grocery portions per vehicle.
- 🚘 Families are asked to remain in their vehicles throughout the entire distribution.
