JAG is excited to welcome Phillip Brooks as its new principal. With a strong commitment to student success, growth, and opportunity, Principal Brooks brings a student-centered leadership approach grounded in relationships, accountability, and academic excellence.

Principal Brooks is a three-time graduate of Alabama State University, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, a Master’s degree in General Counseling, and a Master’s degree in Special Education. He also holds an Instructional Leadership Certification from Auburn University at Montgomery.

His career in education began as a Special Education Aide at Lanier, followed by eight years as a Special Education Teacher at Robert E. Lee High School. During that time, he also served as Head Wrestling Coach for six years, mentoring student-athletes both on and off the mat. Beyond the classroom, Principal Brooks is the founder of Peace On The Streets Tutoring and Training Center, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to supporting at-risk males through education, mentorship, and skill development.

Principal Brooks brings extensive leadership experience, including two and a half years as an Assistant Principal and three years as a Principal, and is now entering his fourth year as a school leader. His hands-on leadership style is shaped by his experiences as both a teacher and administrator, with a strong focus on collaboration, accountability, and student-centered decision-making.

“As we advance JAG, I am looking forward to working with students, faculty, staff, families, and community partners to guarantee student safety, enhance attendance, and improve academic success for all students,” said Principal Brooks. “Together, we can build a school culture where every student is supported, challenged, and empowered to succeed.”

Outside of school, Principal Brooks is a proud husband and father, and an active member of Shiloh Baptist Church and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., organizations that have shaped his commitment to service, leadership, and community engagement.
