Why Attendance Matters
Daily school attendance does more than just keep students up to speed on lessons. Coming to school regularly gives students the chance to:
Stay on track academically: Missing instruction can create learning gaps that build up over time.
Build strong relationships: Daily interactions with peers and teachers foster social skills and a sense of belonging.
Reach long-term goals: Consistent habits built early lay the groundwork for future educational and career success.
Navigating Absences: What Families Need to Know
While daily attendance is the goal, district leaders recognize that illness and family circumstances arise. When a student must miss school, following the proper steps ensures the absence is documented correctly.
Qualifying Excused Absences: Absences may be excused for student illness, family emergencies, required court appearances, or religious holiday observances.
The Three-Day Window: Parents and guardians should submit a written note or doctor's excuse to the school within three school days of the student's return.
Support for Chronic Medical Conditions: If your child has a long-term or recurring medical issue, reach out to your school and Student Support Services to submit a Physician's Statement of Illness. This allows the district to provide tailored accommodations and academic support.
