Dear MPS Families and Staff,

Following a thorough evaluation of campus staffing coverage, all Montgomery Public Schools and administrative offices will be CLOSED tomorrow, Friday, October 9.

This operational decision was made to prioritize students' safety and supervision throughout the district. We are facing a high volume of employee leave requests, anticipated regional effects from Hurricane Isaias, a declared State of Emergency in Montgomery County, and the rescheduling of Alabama State University's annual Homecoming. These factors prevent us from maintaining adequate operational coverage across the district.

All campus buildings and administrative facilities will remain closed, and there will be no in-person or remote instruction tomorrow. All MPS campuses will reopen for normal operations on Tuesday, October 13, following the scheduled federal holiday.

Guidance regarding Friday evening athletics will be communicated directly by school leadership.

We deeply appreciate your patience, flexibility, and understanding as we work to ensure a safe environment for our scholars and staff.

Due to rescheduled Alabama State University Homecoming events and potential weather impacts from Tropical Storm Isaias, Montgomery Public Schools (MPS) is closely monitoring district operations for Friday, October 9.
We are currently seeing a significant increase in employee leave requests across teachers, support staff, bus drivers, and other personnel. Our substitute staffing vendor is experiencing a high volume of requests and limited coverage. Adequate staffing is critical to maintaining a safe, secure, and productive learning environment for our scholars. District leadership is actively evaluating staffing coverage across all campuses.
We will continue assessing our operational needs and will provide families and staff with an official update no later than 12:00 p.m. tomorrow, October 8, regarding any adjustments to school schedules or operations.

Happy Monday, Jaguar Family! Just a few reminders as we celebrate our Homecoming week through different dress-out opportunities:

1. Students MUST abide by the code of conduct. Please scroll to the bottom of the flyer for information about that.

2. Skirts and Shorts MUST be no higher than the crease of the back of the knee (Montgomery Public Schools Code of Conduct, p. 3, #3.)

3. Badges must be worn every day. If students want to participate in the Homecoming dress-out, they must wear a badge around their necks at all times during the school day. Badges can be purchased for 5.00 via MySchoolBucks. Badges will be printed at the school.

4. If you purchased homecoming shirts, they will be delivered this week. Our vendor will not give out individual shirt orders.

If students are unsure, have them bring a change of clothing to school so parents don’t have to come to the school to bring one.
