K–12 Magnet Application Window Extended – Seats Available!

MONTGOMERY, AL — Great news for families seeking specialized academic programs! Montgomery Public Schools (MPS) has officially extended the K–12 Magnet application window through Friday, September 18.

Even though the 2026–2027 school year is officially underway, open seats remain available across elementary, middle, and high school magnet programs throughout the district.

Important Guidelines & Placement Process

  • Applications for the current school year are reviewed upon submission and assigned to open seats. Please note that students currently on the existing K–12 waitlist will be seated first.

  • All Families Are Welcome: You do not need to reside within the MPS attendance zone to apply for a magnet program. This extension is open to current MPS students, brand-new families, non-resident families, and active military families.

  • Current Magnet Students: Students currently enrolled in an MPS magnet program for the 2026-2027 school year (including those who recently accepted an offered seat) are not eligible to apply during this extension. You are encouraged to apply for next year during the standard 2027-2028 application window in January.

About MPS Magnet Programs

Magnet schools are public schools with specialized courses or curricula focusing on particular areas of study, such as the arts, science, advanced academics, or career and technical education. The Montgomery Public Schools (MPS) Magnet Program Schools are open-zoned schools with no designated attendance zone, attracting students from across our entire community.

Diversity is an integral part of our magnet programs in MPS. We welcome students from various cultures and backgrounds, creating a rich learning environment where students gain a comprehensive understanding of subject matter alongside peers from diverse backgrounds. All magnet schools utilize state standards across all subject areas, taught through each school's unique thematic focus.

MPS Magnet Feeder Patterns:

  • MPS Magnet Feeder Patterns:

    • LAMP Feeder Pattern (Advanced Academics): Includes Forest Avenue Elementary, MacMillan Elementary, Baldwin Academics Middle, and Carr Middle Magnet, culminating in a college-preparatory high school environment.

    • BTW Feeder Pattern (The Arts): Includes Carver Elementary Magnet and Baldwin Arts Middle Magnet, with a focus on creative and performing arts, communication arts, and law.

    • BrewTech Feeder Pattern (Career & Technology): Includes Bear Elementary and Floyd Middle Magnet, focusing on a technology-infused, career-oriented curriculum.

The magnet application window has also been extended for current ninth- and tenth-grade students to apply to the new C.I.A. Magnet Program at Park Crossing High School.
