Inaugural Cohort of the superintendent's student advisory council

OVERVIEW: The Superintendent's Student Advisory Council (SSAC) gives Montgomery Public Schools (MPS) students in grades 10–12 an opportunity to share their perspectives, ideas, and concerns directly with the Superintendent. Members will serve as a voice for their peers and help guide initiatives that improve our schools. The Marketing and Community Development manager serves as the faculty advisor and liaison for the student council and Superintendent for the program.

Eligibility Requirements: Must be enrolled in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade at an MPS high school; must maintain good academic and disciplinary standing; must be willing to commit to monthly meetings with the Superintendent (via Zoom or in-person); must submit a completed application, a letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or principal.

Benefits of Serving on the SSAC: The MPS Superintendent Student Council will provide leadership development by building teamwork and communication skills; networking opportunities with district leadership and peers from other schools; influence and impact by providing direct input on decisions affecting MPS students; college and career readiness by enhancing resumes or college applications with meaningful community service and leadership experience; representation as the voice for the student’s school and student body.

Responsibilities of SSAC Members: Students must attend and actively participate in all scheduled meetings; gather feedback from fellow students and present it to the Superintendent; work collaboratively with council members on projects and to develop solutions to issues; maintain a respectful and professional demeanor at all times; and commit to confidentiality when sensitive topics are discussed.
