Montgomery Public Schools (MPS) proudly introduced the members of the 2025–2026 Superintendent Student Advisory Council, a diverse group of student leaders from across the district who will serve as key voices for their peers and partners in shaping the student experience.
The students were officially sworn in by Superintendent Dr. Zickeyous M. Byrd during a special ceremony recognizing their leadership, service, and commitment to strengthening MPS.
This year’s council represents schools throughout the district and includes students who are active in academics, athletics, the arts, and student government. Each member brings a unique perspective and a shared goal of working collaboratively to support student success and build stronger connections between students and district leadership.
The Superintendent Student Advisory Council provides an opportunity for students to share feedback, propose ideas, and engage directly with district leaders on issues impacting their schools. Through this initiative, Dr. Byrd continues his commitment to ensuring that student voices remain at the center of MPS decision-making.
The 2025–2026 council will meet regularly throughout the school year to discuss district priorities, community engagement, and opportunities to enhance the overall student experience across MPS.
Meet the 2025–2026 Student Advisory Council
Justin Jenkins — Percy Julian High School
A senior and dedicated ROTC cadet, Justin also serves as an officer in the Student Government Association. He plans to attend college and continue developing leadership skills to better serve his community.
Christopher Wang — LAMP High School
A senior active in student government and the school-based Student Council, Christopher plans to pursue a career in government as a political advisor or strategy consultant.
Elizabeth Hines — Carver High School
A senior who serves as SGA member-at-large, choir president, and STEM Club member. Elizabeth plans to major in education or mechanical engineering at a four-year university.
Maliyah Meeks — Park Crossing High School
A senior, class president, and starter on the reigning 6A State Championship Basketball Team. Maliyah will attend Troy University to major in criminal justice and pre-law while continuing her athletic career.
Xaviyah Yates — Johnson Abernathy Graetz High School
A senior involved in community service through the YMCA of Montgomery and MPACT. She plans to pursue a career in psychiatry and advocate for mental health awareness.
Aurie Portis — Booker T. Washington Magnet High School
A sophomore active in multiple organizations, including Choral Magnet and Women in Training. Aurie hopes to attend Howard University to grow as a leader and continue serving her community.
Javiarre Salery — Carver High School
A junior and former vice president of the media team. Javiarre plans to pursue a career in real estate and coach cheerleading, blending leadership with community involvement.
Braylee-Joi Thomas — Brewbaker Technology Magnet High School
A senior, class president, and SGA member who is also active in several community organizations. She plans to attend Howard University to major in health science and minor in psychology.
Faith Brown — Brewbaker Technology Magnet High School
A senior and president of HOSA for future healthcare professionals. Faith has interned at Jackson Hospital and plans to become a cardiologist focused on promoting healthier lifestyles.
Carson Shambray — Brewbaker Technology Magnet High School
A junior who serves as a Rambassador, track team member, and active participant in several organizations, including Jack and Jill of America. Carson plans to major in finance at a four-year university.
Ja’Mya Brown-Wright — Johnson Abernathy Graetz High School
A senior involved in art club, theatre, yearbook, and the Honors History Club. She plans to major in mechanical engineering at Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
Lorenzo Bearden — Park Crossing High School
A senior ROTC cadet and captain of the robotics team. Lorenzo plans to attend Auburn University through ROTC and enlist in the Air National Guard.
Baile Braxton — Booker T. Washington Magnet High School
A senior who serves as president of FBLA, president of the National Honor Society, and secretary of the senior class. Baile plans to major in political science at a four-year university.
Trinity Watts-Nuckles — Brewbaker Technology Magnet High School
A senior and president of SGA, Rambassador, varsity girls’ golf team member, and girls’ basketball team manager. Trinity plans to major in political science at Howard University.
Jennifer Stanton — Brewbaker Technology Magnet High School
A senior involved in DECA, HOSA, and multiple national honor societies. Jennifer plans to pursue a career as an OB-GYN after attending a four-year university.
