Music Program Success  

 Though a well-designed classroom, researched – based curriculum and an Orff -certified experienced music instructor, the music program at Wilson Elementary School empowers students to become successful in academics, self-development, and nurtures creativity.     

 The Wilson music classroom is created to provide a warm and nurturing environment with brightly colored green walls, with  a piano  inlaid on the tile floor. In addition to music instructions, the music classroom is large enough to accommodate a variety of activities including, vocal, dancing and instructional games.  Technology is an integral part of instruction and is supported with a smartboard, electric piano and surround sound speakers.    

Wilson Elementary utilizes the Quaver Marvelous Music curriculum.  The Quaver Marvelous Music curriculum has fully developed sequential lessons. The curriculum allows the music educator to facilitate engaging lessons. This instruction is researched based and rated most outstanding music curriculum by the Alabama State Department of Education.  Quaver Marvelous Music curriculum has fully developed lessons that allows the educator to lead engaging lessons.   Quaver Marvelous Music curriculum uses Orff-approach which include lessons that immerse reading, writing and math skills into the music curriculum at the appropriate age level.  It also offers individual student accounts that allow students to   participate in music assignments and games that help them master music skills.  Students participate in collaborative activities including playing musical patterns on recorder, xylophone, and rhythm instruments, move with colorful   scarves, and participate in instructional games, helping students with vocal exploration and to identify the aesthetics of the music. An academic objective from reading, math or history is also covered in weekly music lessons. Wilson's outstanding music program host lab students and interns frequently.  Wilson Elementary strives to develop a strong home and school relationship. To strengthen parental support all parents are invited into the music classroom to see a student  perform a program  that  demonstrates mastered musical skills at the end of each nine weeks.   The Wilson  Elementary music program  strives to provide each student a balanced education.
