Bear Family,

Bear Exploration Center for Mathematics, Science, and Technology School (Bear) represents a pillar of academic excellence within Montgomery Public Schools. As a result of visionary leadership, a dedicated faculty, hardworking students, and committed parents, Bear possesses many academic and prestigious honors. Together, we will continue a tradition of academic excellence.

As educators, we are passionate about education and supporting the success of all students. I believe that innovative educators, who provide students with opportunities to lead their learning through authentic learning experiences, create great schools. In alignment with our mission statement, I submit students should be engaged and inspired to meet their fullest potential. As an institution, we will work to maintain our STEM accreditation with Cognia. The opportunities provided through theSTEM discipline supports the vision of Bear to motivate students by providing opportunities for them to demonstrate their creativity and utilize critical thinking skills.

To create and maintain an optimal learning environment, teachers and I will participate in shared leadership, evaluate instructional practices, monitor students’ performances, and participate in targeted professional learning to increase our content knowledge and pedagogical practices about STEM. Additionally, we will maintain a collaborative partnership between home and school. Our collaboration and success are not limited to Bear, and we understand the importance of support from a thriving community and local businesses.

We are committed to the work that awaits us! To grow as a beacon in STEM learning, this assignment will require the efforts and cooperation of all of us. Our STEM Student Success Plan for 2022-2025 provides an instructional framework to ensure students achieve every day. Bear Exploration Center is a certified magnet and STEM school. We are committed to STEM learning through all content and specialist areas. We will implement a rigorous curriculum embedded in STEM learning. Our STEM focus supports our commitment to high expectations and academic excellence.

Greetings Bear Family!

My name is Donte Todd. I am both honored and humbled to serve as the Assistant Principal at Bear Exploration Center for the 2024-2025 school year! My excitement for this role derives from the Bear family and my love for education.  As an educator I’ve observed that every school is different and as a leader I’ve learned that I am forever in service to those I wish to lead. For the past ten years I’ve taught 2nd graders, 4th graders, 5th graders, 6th graders, and adults. I’ve also served as an administrator in an Intermediate school and middle school in Iowa.  Having the privilege of providing excitement due to an upcoming extracurricular activity the next day, a sense of triumph for a student that believed they couldn’t learn, or helping a fellow educator achieve a self-created goal has motivated me to pursue this position. I am thrilled with the opportunity to share these experiences with Bear students, learn from and help Bear educators, and help facilitate a magical environment for all Bear stakeholders.

As an assistant principal I look to help Dr. Williams in all her endeavors while ensuring the needs of not only students are met, but also the needs of our superheroes… I mean Teachers are met. I will assist with ensuring each classroom is conducive to learning and safety by being present, listening, and doing better than I did the day before. As this is another year for us, this will be the only Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade year for our students. So, why not make it their best? Upon entering this building for the first time I was greeted by the friendly faces of the Bear staff and immediately felt a sense of calm. When offered the position I remember thinking “I will learn so much from Dr. Williams and the entire Bear staff.”

Personally, I enjoy spending time with my beautiful wife (Diamon) and our busy-body two-year old son (Eden). Although they keep me on my p’s and q’s, when I find some free time I like exercising, reading about the trials and tribulations of past American heroes, cheering on my favorite sports teams, watching shows from my favorite writer (Shonda Rhimes), and volunteering with my student organization. Serving as your assistant principal is a dream come true and I couldn’t be more excited about joining the Bear family!

Very Respectfully,

Donte' Todd
