Vaughn Road Elementary School

Dear Parents/Guardians:

          Welcome to Vaughn Road Elementary School for the 2022-2023 school year.  I truly hope that this is one of your child’s best years in school.  Again this year, we will be emphasizing College and Career-Ready Standards so that every child is prepared at each grade level to move to the next grade.  We do have high expectations for each of our Vaughn Road children and we want them to achieve to their highest level of ability.  We will be sending home notices of Workshops where parents are welcome to participate and utilize ideas we use in classrooms to support their children’s work. 

        This year we will welcome back our Alabama Education in the Arts visiting artists who will work with our children in all grades.  We are very excited about this opportunity.  These artists are not just drawing a picture or singing a song with the children, but connecting the arts with math, reading, social studies, or science.  This opens up parts of the brain that are critical for problem-solving and thinking skills.

        Also, again this year we are very fortunate to be able to participate in the Community Eligibility Provision.  This means that our students will receive free breakfast and lunch each day. 

        Our Partners-In-Education include Trinity Presbyterian School and also St. James High School as well as Heritage Baptist Church, Vaughn Road Church of Christ and Evangel Church.  It takes everyone to help make our school a success!  We hope to have an active PTO, so please consider joining.

        The material included in the following pages is to provide you with information about Vaughn Road Elementary School.  Please take the time to read through the information in this booklet and encourage your children to follow the guidelines.  If you have any suggestions for improvements or questions, please feel free to contact me personally.  If you do not receive a response within two days, please call or send email at brenda.lindsey@mps.k12.al.us,  or visit me personally.  The only time I am inaccessible is when I’m in a meeting or out ill.
