  • Some Updates for Parents and Students

To get students into school we are asking all 7th graders to enter through the front doors of the school. We have a metal detector there, also. Teachers will be on duty at 6:30 AM in the front lobby to facilitate this process. The 7th graders will then go to the auditorium until the 7:00 AM bell rings for them to go to their homerooms. This seemed to work well this morning.

Getting to school early will also help us start school on time. Remember that students must be seated in their homerooms at 7:12 AM to be considered on time. Students not in their seats when the tardy bell rings at 7:12 AM are considered tardy, and a parent must sign them in to school in the main office. We ring the bell to go to homeroom at 7:00 AM, a warning bell at 7:10 AM, and the tardy bell at 7:12 AM. Remember you may drop your student off as early as 6:30 AM. Teachers and administrators are on duty to keep them safe.

If your student is participating in sports at Lamp or Floyd and needs to bring a bag with equipment or clothes, they may leave it in the gym. These students, even if they are in the 7th grade should go through the metal detector in the gym. They will leave the bag with the P.E. teachers who will store it for them. When the 2:15 bell rings for dismissal, these students will go to the gym and retrieve their bag. If they play sports for Floyd, they should then go quickly to the bus lane on Scott Street and board bus 18-84.

Thank you for your cooperation. Navigating a four-story building with so many stairs is difficult. Bookbags only complicate the process and make it unsafe. Also, many of our rooms are large enough to accomodate these bags.

We will begin issuing lockers as soon as we get the lists from MySchoolBucks that you've paid the locker fee. The day after the locker is issued, your child may begin bringing his or her bookbag. Remember bookbags must be small enough to fit in lockers.

Thanks for all you do. All of us at Baldwin appreciate you.
