The Safe Schools/Healthy Students (SS/HS) grant is a unique collaboration among the U.S. Departments of Education, Health and Human Services, and the Department of Justice. Created in 1999, in response to rising concerns about national youth violence and school safety, the grant empowers communities and school districts to work together to provide safe and supportive environments for students.   Montgomery Public Schools was awarded the SS/HS grant (approximately 1.5 million dollars per year for 4 years) effective September 1, 2007.  The SS/HS grant helps school districts, in partnership with mental health providers, juvenile justice agencies, and other community partners implement projects that address the following five elements:
1.      Safe School Environments and Violence Prevention Activities 2.      Alcohol, Tobacco, and other Drug Prevention Activities 3.      Behavioral, Social and Emotional Supports 4.      Mental Health Services 5.      Early Childhood Social and Emotional Learning Programs  MPS partners with multiple local agencies to deliver the various services, programs and activities funded by the SS/HS grant.  Please click on the links to the left to find out more about the Montgomery Public Schools’ Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative.  Contact Information Teresa Green
