Mission

Montgomery Public Schools’ First Class Pre-K Program is committed to providing a safe and caring, developmentally appropriate environment for preschool children. Our goal is to provide a high-quality educational experience which promotes each child’s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development at higher levels.

To foster a partnership with families and the community that will enhance the abilities and skills of the whole child in becoming a lifelong learner.

High-quality Pre-K experiences provides children with the foundation for on-going learning and supports children and families to become responsible partners as they develop lifelong skills.

To enhance skills in personal and social development, language and literacy, mathematical thinking, scientific thinking, social-emotional development, technology skills, creative arts, and physical development. 

To develop a professional learning community that includes parents, teachers, principals, MPS departments, and community organizations.

Montgomery Public Schools First Class Pre-K Program is committed to providing a safe and caring, developmentally appropriate environment for preschool children. Our goal is to provide high-quality educational experiences which promote each child’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive development at high levels.Through strong partnerships with Federal Programs, Office of School Readiness, Head Start, and the Family Guidance Center, Montgomery Public Schools offers a dynamic, high-quality Pre-K experience that increases school readiness. High-quality Pre-K enhances a child’s personal and social development, language and literacy skills, mathematical thinking, scientific thinking, social-emotional development, technology skills, creative arts and physical development.

The elementary schools that currently offer Pre-K programs are Carver, Catoma, Davis, E.D. Nixon, Garrett, Highland Gardens, MLK, McKee Pre-K Center, Pintlala, Southlawn, T.S. Morris, Wares Ferry, and Wilson Elementary School. Please see the following agencies for applications: 

First Class Pre-K Programs are not available in all elementary schools. Space is limited and parents are encouraged to register their child for the program as early as possible. Registration does not guarantee your child a First Class Pre-K slot for the 2016-2017 school year. 

REGISTRATION PERIOD

The 2016-2017 First Class Pre-K registration period will run from February 16 through March 17, 2016. Applications will be accepted Monday-Thursday, 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. 

To be eligible for a First Class Pre-K Program, a child must turn four years old on or before September 1. Children who will be five years old on or before September 1 are eligible for kindergarten. Parents should contact their zoned school for information on kindergarten registration.

Apply and return applications for these schools to McKee Pre-K- McKee Pre-K (8 classrooms), Highland Gardens, Pintlala, Southlawn, and Wares Ferry (1 classroom) 

Apply and return applications for these schools to Head Start- Carver, Catoma, E.D. Nixon, Garrett, T.S. Morris, and Wares Ferry Elementary (1 classroom), McKee Pre-K (2 classrooms) 

Apply and return applications for these schools to Family Guidance- Davis and Martin Luther King Elementary

Please provide the following when submitting your application: Birth Certificate, Proof of Residence (current utility bill with the parent’s name; electric, gas, or water); or current lease, Parent and/or Guardian Picture ID

REQUIRED ITEMS TO REGISTER:  All students that are randomly selected to participate in the First Class Pre-K Program will be required to have a current Alabama Blue Immunization Certificate (current shot record). Social Security Card is optional, however can be helpful in completing the registration process.  If your child has a private doctor and has a current health exam, you will have the option to submit a Pre-K Documentation Form to your child’s doctor or allow your child to receive a health screening at school.

Applicants will be scheduled for an Early Childhood Screening. This screening does not affect the random selection process of any agency’s program.

Written notification of acceptance status will be mailed by all agencies on April 25, 2016. The deadline to return acceptance letters is May 9, 2016. Letters can be mailed or faxed to:

Children who are not immediately selected will remain in the applicant pool until space becomes available. All agencies will continue to accept applications for the program after the due date should space become available in a class.
