Montgomery Public Schools held a ceremony honoring Bear Exploration Center's status as a 2015 National Blue Ribbon School. The school was presented with proclamations by the Alabama Senate, the Montgomery County Board of Education and the city of Montgomery. Officials including State Schools Superintendent Tommy Bice were on hand to congratulate the school.

Principals and aspiring principals offered solutions for the future of MPS on Tuesday in a meeting with the districts' top leaders. The educators tackled issues around social media in schools, bullying, gang activity and building trust in the district. It was part of the 2015 MPS Leadership Academy, which is held in conjunction with Auburn Montgomery Outreach.

Students at T.S. Morris Elementary School attended a career expo Wednesday at the school. Students were able to speak with MPS educators, college professors, police, firefighters, an insurance agent, a district attorney, nurses, a barber, members of the media and others as they begin to answer the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Superintendent Margaret Allen was the keynote speaker.

Third, fourth and fifth graders at Seth Johnson Elementary were celebrated Wednesday at the school. The students, in partnership with Sarrell Dental and NFL Alumni, authored "Dr. Marlo Discovers Aliens at the Dental Office,” about the adventures of a monkey who also is a dentist. The book was created in partnership with Sarrell Dental and the Atlanta chapter of the NFL Alumni Association for the groups’ Legends and Kids Young Authors Program.

The Lady Volunteers have met the criteria and been selected as honorees for the 8th Annual MaxPreps Girls Basketball Tour of Champions presented by the Army National Guard. They will be officially recognized as one of the best basketball teams in the nation. They will receive the National Guard National Ranking Trophy in front of other athletes from the school. Of more than 20,000 high schools that field varsity girls basketball teams, only 10 are being recognized across the United States of America on the 2014-15 MaxPreps Tour of Champions.

April 9, 2015 Bellingrath Bookbag Buddies
A group called Book Bag Buddies gave 500 packs of school supplies to Bellingrath Middle School students on Thursday, April 9, 2015. The giveaway is part of a series of motivational activities planned by Principal Ibrahim Lee and local physician Dr. Ashley McIntyre to ensure students have supplies they need for the upcoming state assessments. Dr. McIntyre spoke to the students about the benefits of healthy diet and exercise and stressed the need for students to be exposed to positive role models
April 9, 2015 Astronaut at Carver
U.S. Naval aviator and NASA astronaut Scott Tingle visited Carver Elementary School Thursday, April 9. Capt. Tingle has more than 4,000 flight hours in 48 types of aircraft, 700 carrier arrestments and 54 combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. A member of the NASA astronaut corps since 2009, Tingle was welcomed by a large contingent students outside the school as well as U.S. Representative Terri Sewell. Tingle spoke to students about his experiences as a test pilot and astronaut. Also in attendance were Montgomery Public Schools Superintendent Margaret Allen, and board members Robert Porterfield, Mary Briers and Beverly Ross.

BrewTech High School’s Electrathon Race team will be competing at the Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Monday, April 6th. This is the first year the team will be competing in this event and they will be competing against 12 other teams from around the state of Alabama.

The program is designed to educate and encourage students to make smart life choices. Johnnie Carr Middle School students enjoyed a bowling field trip at Brunswick Zone bowling alley. Members of the Alabama State University bowling team and head coach Andrew Chatmon provided tips to improve students’ skills. Professional bowler Michael Williams II also was on hand to demonstrate his bowling mastery and offer the students life lessons. Williams was the 2013 Professional Bowling Champion for the Professional Bowling Association (PBA).
